Great news from the SA Government: single use plastics banned from 1 March 2021.

Single use plastic straws, cutlery and drink stirrers will be the first to go in the move to rid the state of polluting, unnecessary single use plastic items. The Replace the Waste campaign will help the public and businesses navigate the changes.

Polystyrene cups, bowls and plates will be banned in early 2022 (never too soon), and the framework allows for more items to be added in the future.  Currently only about 10% of polystyrene is recycled.

Here at Ecomenities, of course, we would like to see the polluting hotel mini soaps banned as there are now plenty of alternatives around to replace these hotel horrors.

Although hotel mini soaps are not yet on the list, for the sake of the planet we will be lobbying them to add these to their list of banned items in the near future.
